We are trained and experienced in adjusting babies and kids from just minutes after birth all the way through their teenage years as they transition into adulthood.
Though childbirth is a natural process, it is one of the most physically challenging experiences of a child’s life. Add to that the many potential interventions common in today’s birthing process, and you have the recipe for many potential stresses being placed on their spine, head, cranial bones or nerve system. 95% of infants have at least one subluxation after birth. Sometimes these subluxations result in symptoms, such as colic, frequent ear infections, constipation or irritability. Other times, they go undetected for years but can impact the baby’s optimal development. Getting them checked and adjusted, if needed, early in life, helps their nerve system develop optimally.
As a child grows, learns to crawl and walk, and ventures out into new experiences, many small stresses can accumulate on their spine. Many seemingly insignificant falls and stumbles of a typical child can add up to large stresses over time. Infants also experience rapid growth and frequent developmental milestones and transitions infants leading to potential for additional stress and subluxation on their nerve system. This is why many parents bring their babies and children in for regular spinal “checkups” to remove stress from their spine early, and prevent future postural, neurological, and musculoskeletal problems later in life. These families recognize that prevention is a valuable tool in optimizing their child’s future, and are typically the families that report healthy, happy children to us regularly!
During the first year of life, we recommend having your child’s spine checked for stress at a minimum:
- Immediately after birth
- On holding up his or her head
- When able to sit alone
- When starting to crawl
- When standing alone
- On taking his or her first step
Chiropractic care for infants and children is safe, gentle and effective. Most of our pediatric patients get adjusted for wellness, or prevention, so that they may grow, thrive, and function at their best during their growing years and beyond. In other cases, there may be a symptom or specific reason that parents bring their children to us. Some of the most common symptoms that indicate nervous system stress, and would warrant immediate Chiropractic attention are:
- Bed wetting
- Ear infections
- Attention issues, such as ADD or ADHD
- Sensory processing issues
Kids have spines just like adults – AND kids have stress too! That’s why Chiropractic care can never start too early! At Peak Performance Chiropractic, we analyze your child’s nerve system to determine if and how Chiropractic can enhance their function, development, and ability to thrive.
